| June 25th we went to the city of Durham as you can see photos of in another album named Strolling around City of Durham in County Durham. After we left Durham, we drove SE to the Yorkshire Coast to the very old fishing village of Whitby Bay, for lunch. We had been wanting to try The Magpie Cafe for ages and decided this was as good a time as any. Whitby is about 1 1/2 hours from Durham so by the time we got there, got parked and got to The Magpie, we were starving! LOL We had fish n chips, very nice, but honestly not any better than our local chippy here in Mossley, that we LOVE! Expensive fish n chips but worth the experience, a very nice place to have a meal. They had some yummy sounding seafood pasta's I would love to go back and try.
Anyway, after we ate, we strolled around the water front watching the many boats and seagulls. It turned out to be a beautiful day and we had fun. The ruins of Whitby Abbey is there and and also the old church of St Mary's, where it is thought that Bram Stoker was inspired, there in the graveyard, in the writing of Dracula. Ended our day with an ice cream cone and then headed home to Mossley. Descriptions below each photo. You can view each photo individually by just clicking Next OR you can click on first photo and then scroll down to the bottom to Slideshow, whichever you prefer. Enjoy. Whitby is a beautiful area!!! I love the sea! |
